A customer was left 'disgusted' after he claims a homeless man waiting to pay for a sandwich with money he had given him in a Starbucks was chucked out by staff - who then binned the item.

Ed Cheung, 24, also claims his friend saw the member of staff come back into the store and 'high-five' his colleague after the vagrant had been 'successfully removed' from the Buchanan store in Glasgow last night.

The restaurant manager detailed his experiences in a post on Facebook that has been shared over 10,000 times by angry social media users who are threatening to boycott the coffee chain.

Ed told Mirror.co.uk: "I'm horrified. From giving change to a homeless person who was clearly suffering and living a hard life, to next noticing he's being escorted from the premises without food.

"To then see the food he had touched be thrown in the bin. It's horrifying."

Ed claims he gave the homeless man enough money to buy some food after he'd asked for some spare change.

He said: "He went up to the counter, lifted his sandwich and began to queue in line to pay for his item. At this point a member of staff had walked over to him and approached him.

"I didn't think anything of it and had turned back round to my table, I actually thought the staff member was assisting the gentleman.

"A few seconds had gone by, couldn't have been more than 10, when I turned back around to look over to the gentleman to notice both parties were missing .

"I spotted the man being escorted from the premises by the same member of staff.

"He came back into the store with the sandwich the man was willing to pay for, threw it into the bin and went back into the back with his colleagues and 'celebrated'."

Ed added: "The staff member's face was lit up and colleagues were happy the man was removed from the premises. They were all smiles. My friend told me he high-fived another colleague."

After sharing the story online, Starbucks have received a backlash from customers who have repeatedly posted his story on their official Facebook page, urging the company to respond to the allegations.
